Poznavanje i prepoznavanje emocionalnih i psiholoških utjecaja na kardiovaskularne bolesti umanjuje neočekivane i nepotrebne poteškoće u prevenciji, liječenju i rehabilitaciji tih bolesti.

Research in psychosomatic medicine – the liaison among psychiatry, medical psychology and psychoanalysis – unequivocally shows that there is a close connection between the cardiovascular system and psychological factors. However, these understandings are still not adequately integrated in the biomedical model of education and the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. In practice, the close connection between cardiovascular diseases and psychological factors is often neglected. Knowledge and recognition of emotional and psychological influences in cardiovascular diseases decreases unexpected and unnecessary complications in prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of these diseases.
